In addition to two instruments acquired from Applied Biosystems in 2002 - a QSTAR XL (a quadrupole-TOF hybrid) and a Voyager-DE Pro (a MALDI-TOF) - the departmental MS facility also encompasses two older instruments, a Micromass Quattro II (triple quadupole). The many ionization techniques available on these different platforms include the classic Electron Ionization and Fast Atom Bombardment to the relatively new Electrospray and MALDI. These four instruments are used for a wide range of structural elucidations of chemical and biological products from synthetic and natural sources.
