Applying to the UT Chemistry Graduate Program
Instructions for U.S. applicants
Please note that as of January 1, 2008 the Department of Chemistry has instituted use of a new on-line application system that can be used to apply for teaching assistantship postitions, upload supporting documents, transcripts and scores, and automatically request reference and recomendation letters. This system also allows applicants to view where they are in the selection and admissions process. This system will be used in addition to the paper system for applicants applying for Fall 2008. To register and begin using the new on-line system please read and understand the requirements for admission and follow this LINK.
The application process is a two part process. The first part is
the Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) application which is done
directly through the Department of Chemistry. Once that application
is complete one must also submit all materials to the Graduate School
for admissions. This process is explained in detail in the following
steps.
-
Complete a graduate teaching assistantship (GTA) application.
You can print the application form
in PDF format.
You can also apply online.
(Note that the online application will be displayed in a new
browser window on your screen.)
If you are submitting a paper application form, mail it to:
Graduate Admissions Committee
Department of Chemistry
University of Tennessee
Knoxville, TN 37996-1600
-
Have three people who know you well complete a
recommendation form on your behalf.
Chemistry professors, research supervisors, and employers typically
provide the most useful recommendations for graduate study in
chemistry. These recommendation forms should be sent to the
address listed above in step 1.
-
Send us transcripts from all colleges you have attended and
a copy of your official GRE general exam scores.
This material should be sent to the address listed above as well.
-
Make plans to visit us. Telephone us toll-free at 877-492-0039
or send us e-mail at chemistry@utk.edu
in order to begin planning your visit. During your visit, you
will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with individual
faculty members; you may want to review our list of faculty
to find those faculty members whose research interests you the
most. Driving directions and
maps are available to help you plan your trip.
-
Once you are offered a graduate teaching assistantship by
the Chemistry Department, you must apply to the University's
Office of Graduate & International Admissions . You can avoid the application fee if you contact the Department of Chemistry and request a paper application PRIOR to applying to the Office of Graduate & International Admissions.
-
To check the status of your Chemistry Department application
package, or if you have questions about the departmental application
process, please e-mail us at chemistry@utk.edu.
Your application to the University's Office of Graduate & International Admissions is handled by one of these
staff members.
